Barbara Palatin-Doyle and the CHARTA ALBA Collection
In this exclusive interview, designer Barbara Palatin-Doyle shares the story behind her sculptural lighting series, the CHARTA ALBA Collection. Inspired by a series of paper sculptures, Palatin-Doyle wanted to bring the poetry of light and shadow into interior design using porcelain and handmade paper elements. The name “Charta Alba” itself refers to this transformation—from paper to porcelain.
The lamps are crafted in collaboration with the renowned Augarten Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna. Their expertise and attention to detail allowed the delicate drapery of the original paper sculptures to be preserved in porcelain, achieving a luminous, almost weightless aesthetic.
Palatin-Doyle describes the asymmetrical shapes, soft translucency, and sculptural elegance as defining elements that make the lamps unique. The result is a timeless object that balances artistic expression and functional design—perfect for modern, atmospheric interiors.
